Course Overview: Topics we will cover in aquatic science this year include water resources and management, properties of water, freshwater ecology, ichthyology (study of fishes), oceanography, marine ecology, animal evolution, humans & the sea, and shark dissection.
Grading Policy: 60% - Major grades – Tests, Major Labs, Projects 40% - Daily Work
Classroom Expectations: Prompt – Be on time, in your seat, and ready to work when the bell rings Prepared – Have all your needed materials for class everyday Productive – Remain on task until all work is completed without disrupting the work of others Positive – Help create an environment in which everyone can enjoy doing their best work Polite – Respect yourself, others, and classroom property at all times
Consequences: Visual or Verbal Warning Student/teacher conference Parent contact and/or detention Referral to Assistant Principal General Procedures: Cell Phones: Cell phones will be placed at the side of the room at the beginning of class. They will stay in their carrel until all work is completed, showing mastery.
Retest/Redo Policy: If you fail (below a 70%) an assignment, lab, quiz or test, you have the opportunity for mastery and are expected to do test corrections/revisions/test retakes during one or more tutoring sessions. This should be done within 1 week after that assignment is recorded or reported in the gradebook. Tutoring is mandatory before any retest/redo. You have 5 school days to complete your tutoring and retest
Please do not ask to go to the restroom during the following times: During classroom instruction During a test Absences When you are absent you have one day to make up work for every day that you are absent Please see me on your first day back to obtain work that you missed and to set up times to make-up labs Check the class website when you are absent for materials and agendas for missed days
